Why Drive Drunk When You Can Get a FreeRideHome?

Whether you're a Northwestern student who's had a bit too much to drink, or someone's whose after-work happy hour became a three-hour binger, you may find yourself having to make the difficult decision whether to pay $30 for a cab ride home or risk driving home yourself.

In reality, this is not such a difficult decision to make. Besides the obvious risks of killing someone or yourself by driving drunk, you also face substantial penalties including jail time, fines, and license suspensions if you're caught driving under the influence. But with a new smart phone app called FreeRideHome, the decision not to drive yourself home has become a no-brainer.

FreeRideHome is an application that can be installed onto your smartphone. FreeRideHome does not itself drive people home safely from bars, but instead the app aggregates all sober driver programs across the country and places it in the hands of anyone with a smartphone. Through GPS technology, the application can locate where you are and tell you how to contact a nearby sober driving program.

So if you're in The Loop, the application will identify sober driver programs in that neighborhood and hook you up with a ride home. Some of these services are free and others are offered at a discount rate through the app.

There really is no excuse to drive home drunk. If the deterrent of getting a ticket, going to jail, or seriously injuring someone was not enough, you now have the ability to get a sober ride home literally at your fingertips through the FreeRideHome application.
