Prosecutors have accused 41-year-old Angus D. Lake of driving drunk after he allegedly ran his truck into a horse at the Balmoral Park Racetrack in Crete, killing his girlfriend Michelle Eustis, 25. My Fox Chicago reported Lake is now facing a jail term of up 14 years for each DUI count against him for her death.

Lake supposedly had "five or six shots" of liquor in a barn at the racetrack with Eustis and 21-year-old Heather France when the two women decided to ride bareback on a horse. Lake went to look for them half an hour later in his pickup truck, but he slammed on the brakes hard as he approached the horse from behind. The vehicle ended up spinning around and knocked the horse down.

Eustis was killed after experiencing head trauma while France suffered a broken leg and underwent surgery.

After the accident, Lake was found to have a blood-alcohol content level of 0.147 percent, which is almost twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. Prosecutors said he currently faces four counts of aggravated DUI and is subject to a maximum sentence of 14 years behind bars on each count. Lake was also prohibited from making any contact with France.

Will County Assistant State's Attorney Mary Fillipitch noted that Angus Lake had no Illinois driver's license but did have a valid Michigan license, which suggests that he may have recently moved to Illinois from Michigan. She added that he may have also worked at the race track.

Will County Judge Marzell L. Richardson Jr. has set Lake's bail at $500,000, and a preliminary hearing on the case has been scheduled for May.
