Lake Zurich DUI Offender Charged With Perjury

It looks as though Bradley Baldino's Illinois DUI lawyer has more work to do after his 38-year-old Lake Zurich client allegedly lied under oath about his arrest record, as reported by the Chicago Daily Herald. He was found guilty on DUI charges but now faces the much more serious charge of perjury.

Perjury is committed when an individual knowingly lies under oath and the lie is directly relevant to the testimony, legal document or other legal matter at hand, according to FindLaw.

Mr. Baldino allegedly swore under oath that he had never previously been arrested on any DUI or other alcohol-related charges, according to authorities cited in the article. However, officers reportedly discovered that Mr. Baldino not only had a 2008 DUI conviction from Lake County, but also a 2006 DUI conviction from California.

Steve Patterson of the Cook County Sheriff's Department told reporters that Mr. Baldino was particularly evasive of one prior incident:

Baldino denied the California arrest, but the name, address, photo and fingerprints from that incident matched those on file in Illinois, Patterson said.

Mr. Baldino was arrested last week at a sports bar in Lake Zurich for the perjury charge and released after a family member posted the necessary 10 percent of his $10,000 bond, according to the Herald. The arrest followed an investigation triggered by a Cook County state's attorney complaint, Mr. Patterson told reporters.

Mr. Baldino was charged with a DUI and reckless driving connected to a May 2009 collision in South Barrington, Mr. Patterson told the Herald. He reportedly was convicted of the reckless driving charge and sentenced to one year of conditional discharge and a fine.
